Dayton Stagecoach Inn

Located along the old Des Moines to Fort Dodge stagecoach route, the Dayton Stagecoach Inn was built in 1868 and used as a combination inn, bar and private home. It is on 10 acres of secluded land that includes 150-year-old oak trees and some limited access to Beaver Creek. It is only a few minutes drive to the High Trestle or Raccoon River Valley recreation trails. The inn sleeps nine people with three separate bedrooms, has a fully equipped kitchen, ADA bathroom on both levels. Bring your own bedding and sense of adventure. It is available to rent May 1 – Oct. 31, plus April and November when conditions permit.

Glissman Lodge

The Glissman Conservation Area boasts a 7.5-acre pond on 60 acres to hike, fish, bird watch, picnic or mushroom hunt. The Glissman Lodge will sleep up to eight people when using the futon and features a fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms (an ADA shower and a bathtub) and a deck with a beautiful panoramic view. Pillows, towels and linens are not furnished. Fun for the whole family or a reunion with friends. Closed December through March.

Kuehn Conservation Area

(5.5 miles north of Earlham)
Primitive camping is allowed in designated areas of this nearly 800-acre conservation area. There are modern restroom facilities and a water pump at the education building. No motor vehicles are allowed to the campsites, so campers should come prepared to hike their gear from the parking lot to their selected site. Camping fees are $8 per tent per night.

Sportsman Park Cabins and Campground

13821 130th St., Dawson
This 40-acre park overlooks the North Raccoon River. A modern campground with electrical and primitive camping is available as well as a modern shower house with restrooms. The park also has a handicap-accessible playground. Two all-season cabins are available for rent. Each includes a shower, restroom, microwave and refrigerator, as well as heat and air conditioning. Bring your pillows, towels, linens, camping supplies and the spirit of adventure. Minutes from the Raccoon River Valley Trail system.

Whistlin’ Donkey Campground
111 N. Main St., Woodward
The Whistlin’ Donkey offers private camping on six acres immediately adjacent to the High Trestle Trail. Camping is primitive without electricity. Ice, food and beverages are available at the bar and grill. The campground hosts RVs, fifth wheels, tents and buses. Reservations are not required but are encouraged during peak camping times.
